Pettitte cutting down his ERA

Andy Pettitte has put together three great starts in his last four, and has lowered his ERA to 4.35. His cutter might be the pitch to thank for his superb pitching, and Jose Molina also deserves praising.

Molina, who caught Pettitte’s three starts prior to last night’s, advised Jorge Posada to stick with the cutter last night.

That little nugget just might have made the difference in last night’s win over the Blue Jays. I’m sure it happens all the time in the majors, but communication between catchers is extremely important to helping starters stay in their groove.

Pettitte has compiled a 2.36 ERA since the break with a 29/7 K/BB ratio. One simply cannot ask for more from a middle-of-the-rotation starter.

Keep it up, Pettitte!
