Yankees-Blue Jays series preview

The Yankees (63-42) are clinging to a half-game lead over the Red Sox heading into a two-game series with the Blue Jays () who are essentially out of the playoff race (51-54) despite leading the East for a significant chunk of the first half.

Pitching Matchups:

Date: Yankees starters: Blue Jays starters:
7:07 p.m., Tues Andy Pettitte (8-6, 4.51) Roy Halladay (11-4, 2.68)
7:07 p.m., Wed Sergio Mitre (1-0, 7.90) M. Rzepcyznski (1-2, 3.25)
As daunting as Halladay is, the Yankees actually scored five runs off him last time and ended up winning in extras. However, he did shut the Yanks down in his start in May. Which Halladay will show up tonight?

You might notice that Mitre, not Joba Chamberlain, is pitching game two. The Yankees shuffled their rotation so they could have their top four starters for the upcoming Red Sox series. Hopefully Mitre can give the Yankees a chance to win this time, unlike his last start.

My Outlook:
I’d love to see the Yankees sweep the series and ride a winning streak back to the Bronx for the series with the Red Sox, but Halladay is one tough cookie. I’m banking on a split.
