Yankees-Rays series preview

Better late than never, as I always say.

The Yankees (102-57) begin the final weekend with the Rays (82-77) this weekend before heading into the postseason against either the Tigers or the Twins.

Head-to-Head:
The season-series was already clinched by the Yankees when they swept the Rays in early September to go ahead 10-5. These Rays were the AL champs last year, but heading into tonight, they were 20 games back of the Yanks!

Pitching Matchups:

Date: Yankees starters: Rays starters:
Fri., 7:38 p.m. CC Sabathia (19-7, 3.21) David Price (9-7, 4.60)
Sat., 7:08 p.m. Andy Pettitte (14-7, 4.11) Jeff Niemann (12-6, 3.94)
Sun., 1:38 p.m. A.J. Burnett (12-9, 4.10) Wade Davis (2-1, 3.45)

My Outlook:
Unfortunately I saw Sabathia get roughed up early, so a 20th win fell out of reach once again for the big lefty. Niemann is in the running for the AL Rookie of the Year Award, while Pettitte will look to regain his consistency. Burnett will have to do the same thing in the season finale.

Remaining opponents weighted winning percentage: 51.6 percent
