Lineup beginning to shape up [Twitter Poll]

Picking up Curtis Granderson at least gave the Yankees a definite outfield possibility. However, with Johnny Damon, Mike Cameron and, perhaps, Hideki Matsui waiting in the wings, there are still plenty of options for the DH spot and the outfield.

Here’s an opening day lineup projection based on where the Yankees stand at this moment:

Derek Jeter SS
Granderson CF
Mark Teixeira 1B
Alex Rodriguez 3B
Jorge Posada C
Robinson Cano 2B
Nick Swisher RF
Melky Cabrera LF
Juan Miranda DH

That’s not bad at all, but imagine what it could be:

Derek Jeter SS
Damon DH
Mark Teixeira 1B
Alex Rodriguez 3B
Granderson CF
Jorge Posada C
Robinson Cano 2B
Nick Swisher RF
Melky Cabrera LF

A few of my twitter followers chimed in on the discussion, particularly the leadoff spot, and suggested Jeter should not move anywhere for Granderson. Here’s what they said:

MarcusBlumberg – Derek Jeter

HeartbeatBronx – Jeter…since he’ll be leading off all year long. He has a .400 OBP and a renaissance year last year. You don’t play w/that

ElizabethFinn – Jeter. still Jeter.

While the trio does have strong arguments to back them up, I’m gonna have to agree with Jaydestro, who said Hideki Irabu should hit leadoff. Hehe.
