Joba done after three innings, again

For the second straight time under the new Joba plan, Joba Chamberlain’s night was over after three innings. I’m guessing this isn’t going to go over well with most fans.

But they need to be patient.

Firstly, his start tonight was awful. He had no command whatsoever, allowing six hits and two walks in 59 pitches! (Unlike last time when he was only 35 pitches deep through three frames.)

Secondly, this was a part of the plan. It makes sense to start with a short number of innings and work up to longer outings to prepare for a playoff start. The Yankees have the bullpen depth to absorb the extra innings because of the September call-ups.

Lastly, don’t give up on him as a starter. There are so many pitchers that have taken a long time to develop, and end up being great. He still has plenty of time to grow as a starter and rack up innings.
