Yankees retain Mitre, for now

ESPN's Jerry Crasnick tweeted the Yankees have avoided arbitration with Sergio Mitre and re-signed him for $850,000. However, Mitre is a strong candidate to be traded before spring training.

I have stated in multiple posts Mitre could be good trade bait for a possible outfield/bench player. The Yankees already have Chad Gaudin and Alfredo Aceves as long relievers. You can never have too much pitching, but there is just no room for Mitre.

Mitre went 3-3 with a 6.79 ERA with the Yankees last year. His best outing was against the White Sox on Aug. 29 when he shut them out for 6-1/3 innings. The Yankees won that game 10-0.
