Vazquez will put Pettitte out of rhythm

Joe Girardi and the Yankees made the decision to give Javier Vazquez the Red Sox series off. But he’s not missing two full rotations, he’s cutting in to the rotation on Monday against the Tigers, right in front of Andy Pettitte.

All Pettitte’s done this year is go 3-0 with a 2.12 ERA. Instead of letting him start every fifth day, the Yankees are making the 38-year-old sit an extra day.

It’s just one extra day, but why not just keep Pettitte in rhythm? I just see no reason for Vazquez to cut the line.

The plan for Vazquez is he’ll have a bullpen session today and Friday to prepare for Monday’s start with the Tigers. I don’t think bullpens are the answer to his mystery season.

Pettitte will pitch the third game of the current series with the Orioles and will pitch on Tuesday after Vazquez on Monday.
