Yankees sign Feliciano for 2 years, $8MM

The Yankees signed LOOGY (Lefty One-Out GuY) Pedro Feliciano for two years, $8 million with an option for a third year. Feliciano pitched the first eight years of his career with the Mets, and he led the majors in appearances the last three years.

Any Met fan will tell you he should only face lefties. ESPN New York has a nice breakdown of his splits here. His breaking ball is devastating to lefties, and his fastball is destroyed by right-handers.

You know what amazing lineup in the AL East is packed with lefties? Yup, it’s the Red Sox.

However, one matchup I never want to see in 2011: Feliciano vs. Kevin Youkilis.

Feliciano joins Boone Logan as the only other lefty in the bullpen to start the year. Logan had a tremendous year last year, but like Feliciano, he is most valuable against lefties.

After the All-Star break, there is a chance the Yankees will have three southpaws in their bullpen. Damaso Marte, recovering from shoulder surgery, is expected to return in August or September. (But don’t bank on it.
