Yankees-Red Sox Series Preview: ‘Stinky Sox’

stinky sox daily news back pageThe NY Daily News oh-so cleverly called out the Red Sox today to light the fire to the first rivalry matchup of the season.

Heading into the series at Fenway Park, the Red Sox are still winless at 0-6 — tied for the second-worst start in franchise history — and the Yankees are in good position after two home series at 4-2. If the Red Sox lose again today, frustration levels will rise and the chances of a fight breaking out will soar.

The Red Sox are due to win soon, so maybe this is a time for some sports betting online. Before you lay down your money, let’s take a closer look at the series.

On the Hill:
Friday: Phil Hughes (0-1, 11.25) vs. John Lackey (0-1, 22.09)
Saturday: Ivan Nova (1-0, 4.50) vs. Clay Buchholz (0-1, 5.68)
Sunday: CC Sabathia (0-0, 1.38) vs. Josh Beckett (0-1, 5.40)

Players to Watch:
Derek Jeter: He’s off to a bit of a slow start, but he can make fans (and media) quickly forget that with a few big hits against Boston.

Adrian Gonzalez: The one Sock off to a good start is the import from the San Diego Padres. The lefty is hitting .304/.360/.522 with a homer and five RBIs to start the season.

Prediction:
The Red Sox will drop to 0-7 today, win tomorrow against the Yankees’ young gun, and then the big lefty will take down Beckett on Sunday night.
