Yanks’ comeback falls short, Garcia lit up

The Yankees dug themselves into a hole early, and they never made it out. Jon Lester and Jonathan Papelbon made sure of that.

Scoreboard Says:
Red Sox 6, Yankees 4
W: Jon Lester
L: Freddy Garcia
S: Jonathan Papelbon

Tex Exits:
Mark Teixeira’s night didn’t last one full inning. Lester’s cutter in the first drilled him in his back knee and he was helped off the field. Luckily, X-rays were negative and he was left with a contusion. He’ll be re-evaluated tomorrow. By the way, his replacement, Jorge Posada, did OK in his place: 3-for-3, RBI, R, BB.

Nifty Noesi:
Hector Noesi saved the bullpen again, pitching six strong innings in relief. His only blemish was allowing a two-run shot to David Ortiz, which proved to be the difference.

Game Ball:
Lester. He hit two batters in the first inning, but made it through six to earn a quality start and a victory.
