Nate’s Takes: A-Rod, lefties, OBP, Andruw Jones, Brett Gardner, David Robertson

It wasn’t a great week for the New York Yankees as they dropped some heartbreakers to the weakest teams in the League. They now sit 1.5 games out of first place as they once again try to win a series against the Red Sox.

The Yankees are facing two main questions. Can they enter the playoffs healthy? And who will start behind CC Sabathia in the playoffs? The Yankees are showing signs of wear and tear and I wouldn’t be surprised if the Yankees used the expanded rosters to give some players extended days off. With a midweek rivalry series hours away here are my takes:

Sounds like we will not see Pedro Feliciano and Damaso Marte ever wear a Yankee uniform again. Both of whom suffered setbacks in their rehab assignments. With Marte, at least we had 2009.

The Yankees might as well put Alex Rodriguez back on the DL. With a playoff berth almost locked up they should get him back 100 percent, no questions asked. They can compete for the division without him.

Top OBP on the Yankees: Nick Swisher, Curtis Granderson, A-Rod. Lowest OBP on the Yankees: Jorge Posada, Russell Martin, Robinson Cano.

Andruw Jones now has 11 home runs on the year. He is my sleeper to become an All-Star next year. I bet some team signs him at a bargain, makes him a starter and he has a monster year.

Brett Gardner could really use a few days off to avoid another end-of-the-season slump. He seems to tire out as the season winds down.

I don’t even get nervous anymore when David Robertson has the bases loaded.

Yankees do not have great pitching matchups vs. the Red Sox this weekend. It wouldn’t surprise me if the Yankees lose two games. I am predicting that A.J. Burnett doesn’t make it out of the third inning. He could be making one of his last starts of the season.
