Steinbrenner to be honored tonight, E:60 tomorrow

The Yankees are dedicating a monument in honor of George M. Steinbrenner tonight. Notables to be in attendance include Joe Torre, Don Mattingly, Yogi Berra and Reggie Jackson.

ESPN’s E:60 will air a documentary for Steinbrenner Tuesday night.

Steinbrenner was more than just one of the greatest owners in sports history. If you’ve seen the Yankeeography for him, I bet you’ve already learned a ton about him you didn’t expect.

Nick Swisher to be featured on ESPN’s E:60 Tuesday

Yankees right fielder Nick Swisher will be featured on ESPN’s E:60 Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET. If you saw the feature this show did on Mariano Rivera on May 11, I’m sure you’ll be inclined to turn on ESPN tomorrow night. I’d be inclined to do so no matter what since it’s about Swish, but that’s just me.

ESPN's award-winning primetime newsmagazine E:60 will feature an exclusive interview with Nick Swisher of the New York Yankees and profile what he has brought to the team in the episode airing Tuesday, Aug. 3, at 7 p.m. ET.

When the Yankees signed Swisher as an insurance outfielder prior to the 2009 season, he wasn't quite an afterthought--but his was the least-heralded of the Yankees' mammoth free agent signings that winter. Mark Teixeira, C.C. Sabathia and A.J. Burnett were the headliners; Swisher was just that other guy. Eighteen months later, Swisher is arguably the second-best player on baseball's best team.

But his productivity is just part of the story. Into a clubhouse that was known for its seriousness, Swisher injected some much needed joie de vivre. His relentless energy and enthusiasm initially encountered some resistance in the business-like atmosphere in the Bronx--but eventually his teammates were won over by his attitude and performance. With Swisher, the Yankees won the World Series for the first time in nine years and, for the first time since perhaps long before then, they've been having fun. Jeremy Schaap reports for E:60.

Mariano Rivera featured on E:60 tonight

It’s pouring out in Detroit as of 5:43 p.m. ET, meaning all the Yankees fans will need to find something else to watch on TV tonight. I’ve found the obvious choice for most.

Mariano Rivera is being featured on ESPN’s investigative TV show E:60 tonight at 7 p.m. The picture above shows you can get a sneak peek from ESPN New York’s homepage.

I remember reading Tom Verducci’s SI cover piece on Mo and I was impressed. I expect tonight’s video piece on Mo will be just as compelling.

As for the Yankees, I agree with Journal News beat Chad Jennings: doubleheader tomorrow.
