Damon’s right! For once… (Updated)

In reaction to the Curtis Granderson trade, Johnny Damon, a yet-to-be-re-signed free agent, had this to say:

“I think having a guy like Granderson, who has the potential to be a really good player, if you can pick up a guy like that and not lose too many people from your big-league club, that’s a positive.”

Sometimes simplest is best (Occam’s razor, right dad?). Damon took the simple approach to analyzing the trade. He recognized the Yankees didn’t give up any big-time proven players for someone who is already. A nice point.

Also, if you aren’t a fan of the deal, check out Sam Borden’s first two points in defense of the Yankees. Then get back to me.

UPDATE: It looks like Mark Feinsand of The Daily News also spoke with Damon, and he offered an interesting quote to Feinsand.

“At this point in my career, I’m all about winning No. 1,” Damon said. “If you have the flexibility to move the DH to the outfield, it definitely helps out your team quite a bit. I’m sure there are a lot of possibilities.”

Is he possibly implying that he wants to DH for the Yankees in 2010? I think so.
