Yankees-Orioles series preview

While Stephen Strasburg makes his debut tonight in Washington, the Yankees get to start a three-game series in Baltimore.

The Orioles have the worst record in baseball and are on manager No. 2 this year. They’ve won a single game in their last 10, as they avoided a sweep against the Red Sox on Sunday.

Head to head: The Yankees have dropped just one of the nine games they’ve played against the Orioles this season and have won their last eight. After this, the two teams don’t see each other again until September.

Pitching Matchups:

Date:Yankees startersOrioles starters
Tues., 7:05 p.m.Phil Hughes (7-1, 2.54)Kevin Millwood (0-6, 4.29)
Wed., 7:05 p.m.CC Sabathia (5-3, 4.14)Chris Tillman (0-1, 7.71)
Thurs., 7:05 p.m.A.J. Burnett (6-3, 3.72)Jeremy Guthrie (3-6, 3.71)

Players to Watch:
Yankees: A.J. Burnett.
Thursday’s starter hasn’t allowed a run to the Orioles in 15 1/3 IP this year, allowing eight hits, three walks and striking out 12.

Orioles: Scott Moore. The young shortstop is hitting .385 this month with a double and a stolen base. There aren’t really too many players to watch on the O’s…

Prediction:
The only Orioles pitcher having decent success against the Yankees was Brian Matusz, but he lost all three of his starts. This series shouldn’t be close.
