CC Sabathia headed to DL with strained groin

So much for being in "great shape," as I said Sunday.

Word just got out from Yankee Stadium that CC Sabathia is headed to the disabled list with a Grade 1 strain of the adductor muscle near his left leg. He's expected to miss two starts and return after the All-Star break. Freddy Garcia will start in his place Friday.

Sabathia isn't having a particularly outstanding season, but what I've always said about him remains true. He continues to eat innings, which is such an underrated stat. He averages just more than seven innings per start, meaning usually only one or two relievers have to pitch.

The key to a good bullpen is a good rotation.

When arms are fresh, pitches tend to go faster and fewer arms get sore. CC has been an anchor in this rotation since 2009, which happens to be their last World Series. I don't really think it's a coincidence. Do you?
