Quinnipiac poll: CT has more Yankees fans than Red Sox fans

Any time Quinnipiac, Yankees and Red Sox are involved in the same story, I feel obligated to post about it.

According to an annual Quinnipiac poll, there are more Yankees fans in Connecticut than members of Red Sox nation.

Boom. Roasted.

Mariano Rivera Jr. coming to Quinnipiac

Looks like I might be seeing the Riveras roaming Quinnipiac’s campus next year. My school newspaper, the Chronicle, exclusively reported today Mariano Rivera III will come to Quinnipiac next year.

Mariano Rivera Jr., the son of New York Yankees famed closer Mariano Rivera, said in a phone interview Friday he will attend Quinnipiac University in the fall and will try out for the baseball team, attempting to walk on as a pitcher.

“My parents were supporting me 100 percent; they want me to go here,” Rivera said. “I have to prove to them that I’m ready for college and I’m on my own basically.”

I’ve been blogging for almost two years now. Some of you may not know it, but I’m also a college student.

It’s that time of year, folks. Finals week.

Teixeira reminds me of my dorm room

This is my first week back at Quinnipiac University for my junior year, and I’ve had to endure some of the harshest living conditions of my life due to the scorching sun and lack of air conditioning.

When I see Mark Teixeira having a monster series against the Athletics, his hot bat reminds me of my dorm room. Hot, hot, hot. En fuego. En feu. However you want to say it, he’s tearing the cover off the ball.

After last night’s 4-3 victory, he’s combined to go 8-for-12 with two homers, eight RBIs, five runs scored and two doubles against the A’s. He gets one more shot at the Athletics’ pitching staff today, led by Dallas Braden, who Teixeira is 4-for-13 against in his career with a homer.

Cam you remember when Tex was hitting in the .220s in June? Now he’s up to .268/.372/.514 with 30 dingers and 98 RBIs. That means he’s two RBIs short of his seventh straight 100-RBI season, all of which coupled with 30 or more homers.

Little known fact about Tex: He’s also the major league leader in runs scored with 100 on the nose.

Unbelievable. Robinson Cano still is this year’s breakout performer and top MVP candidate for the Yankees, but Teixeira is making quite a run at Cano in the past couple of months.

Yankees trounce Tribe under my watch, I reveal summer plans for lenNY’s Yankees

I knew it! The Lenny-Fletch tandem improved to 3-0 with tonight’s 8-2 win over the Indians. Nick Swisher’s two-run shot in the second gave the Yankees the early lead, and Robinson Cano’s seventh-inning grand slam put the game away to preserve Phil Hughes’s sixth win.

This was the fourth Yankees game I attended this year. You must understand: I was born and raised in New Hampshire. I went to one game — two if I was lucky — per year for at least 10 years.

Now I feel like I know my way around Yankee Stadium better than I do New York. But hopefully that will change this summer, as I’ll be interning for a small digital marketing agency called eic. I’m receiving academic credit at Quinnipiac University, where I’ll be a junior this fall.

The internship is full-time, and I start Tuesday. On top of that, I’m taking a digital design course online which lasts for the next month or so, so I can, you know, graduate on time. Let’s just say, I’ll be busy this summer.

But I’m not about to put down this blog for the summer. To be honest, I don’t think I could. It’s kind of addicting. As long as I excel in both my commitments and have some extra time on my hands, you’ll have your Yankees daily news and analysis.

Back to school + Yankees tidbits

Winter break has finally come to an end and today I'm headed back to Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Conn.

I'll be quite busy getting situated back at school over the next few days which most likely means less posting.

But it's not like I'm missing out on a busy part of the year. In fact, this is the slowest time of year in terms of Yankees news. Once pitchers and catchers report to spring training on Feb. 17, expect the news to pick up quickly.

I have three morning/early afternoon classes Monday through Thursday, and two night courses on Monday, through Wednesday nights. Meaning, my typical post plan is a scheduled morning post (9 a.m.), a mid-afternoon post (3-4 p.m.) and then a game recap (10-11 p.m.).

Final exams finish up sometime in the second week of May, leaving me about a month into the season. Just keeping you informed.

Speaking of informing you...

• The Tigers have no interest in signing Johnny Damon, and the Braves aren't interested either. At this point, my best guess is he ends up with the Yankee making $2 million. I give up.
  
• Chad Gaudin and Boone Logan filed for arbitration yesterday.

Big whoop. All the Yankees have left to do this offseason is fill out their bench and figure out what to do with the Sergio Mitre/Chad Gaudin situation. If you had to pick three weeks out of the whole year not to read my blog, these ones upcoming would be them. But if you choose to keep coming back, I'll find ways to keep things entertaining.
