Yankees end skid at 6, A-Rod homers twice

Alex Rodriguez connected for his seventh and eighth homers of the year, and Ivan Nova pitched the Yankees to a 6-2 victory, ending the team’s six-game losing streak.

Scoreboard Says
Yankees 6, Rays 2
Win: Ivan Nova
Loss: James Shields

A-Rod’s Knocks
A-Rod tied the game at 1 in the fourth with his seventh homer, and then broke that tie in the sixth for his second homer off Shields.

Welcome Back, Jorge:
In Jorge Posada’s first start since Friday, he singled and doubled in three at-bats. He *raised* his batting average to .179.

Mo Sighting:
When the Yankees extended their lead to five in the ninth, they opted to put Amauri Sanit on the mound instead of Mariano Rivera. Sanit allowed a double and walked a batter, forcing Joe Girardi to put Mo in for the final out.

Game Ball:
Nova gets tonight’s honors, for doing what A.J. Burnett should’ve done last night: deliver a winning performance. It’s about time.
